Think you're ready for a cyber attack?
Our app gives you the chance to find out—before it happens for real.
Most cybersecurity training is like eating dry toast: bland, forgettable, and reluctantly consumed. You click through a few slides, answer a couple of questions, and pat yourself on the back for “compliance.”
But when a real threat hits—an urgent email from your “boss,” a rogue USB drive, or a tempting login screen—those training slides won’t save you.
That’s the problem we’re solving with What the Hack!
Our hybrid board game (coming soon!) is designed to teach cybersecurity through real-world scenarios, roleplay, and collaborative decision-making. But today, we want to share a sneak preview of one of our favorite features in the app: the mini-game quiz mode.
This is how you can train, test, and level up your cyber instincts—before game night.
A Game Before the Game
The What the Hack! app isn’t just a game guide—it’s your training ground. We’ve built a quiz mode that helps players explore cybersecurity basics in a fast, fun, and surprisingly challenging way.
This isn’t just for IT nerds (though you’ll enjoy it too). It’s for anyone who’s ever asked:
“Wait… how do I know if this email is a phishing attempt?”
The quiz mini-game helps you build real-world awareness through short, theme-based rounds on topics such as:
Spotting phishing attacks
Strong password strategies
Insider threats
Secure device handling
Remote work do’s and don’ts
Social engineering tricks
Each game consists of 16 quick questions. You get instant feedback after every answer—so you’re not just guessing, you’re learning.

How It Works
You open the app, press “Start” to dive into a round. The questions are grounded in real-world examples—suspicious emails, risky passwords, shady file attachments—and challenge you to spot the red flags.
At the end of each quiz, you get your Game Score: how many correct answers, how quickly you answered, and whether you hit a new personal best.
And yes—your quiz scores matter. They can influence gameplay in the full board game later on by unlocking bonus moves or advantages. So it’s not just for bragging rights—it’s actually part of the game strategy.

Why We’re Doing This
Because cybersecurity shouldn’t be reactive. It should be proactive, personal, and persistent.
We know that when people get to interact with content—not just passively consume it—they’re far more likely to remember and apply it. That’s backed by neuroscience, and something we’ve seen firsthand in learning environments.
The quiz mode is our way of bringing that interactivity into everyday life—even before players sit down for the main What the Hack! experience (coming soon!).
Imagine a workplace where people train their cyber instincts during coffee breaks. Where security isn’t just a once-a-year workshop, but part of a fun, ongoing game. That’s what we’re building toward.
A Quick Look at the App
We’ve designed the app to be clean, fast, and accessible. No complicated menus. No bloated features. No cyberpunk clichés.
Here’s what you’ll find:
A clean home screen where you can pick your games
Clear, multiple-choice questions (great on mobile!)
Progress tracking with simple visual feedback
A growing library of topics based on real-world threats
With 15 minutes playing time, it’s designed to fit into your day, not take over your calendar.

Now We Need Your Feedback!
We’re opening the doors for early feedback on the look, feel, and logic of the quiz mode.
This is your chance to help shape a tool that’s going to be used by teams, students, and leaders across industries.
👉 How do you like the quiz flow?
👉 Is the UI helpful and intuitive?
👉 Would you play this regularly to stay sharp?
👉 What kind of quiz topics would you love to see?
We’re especially keen to hear from people working in IT, HR, learning & development, education, and of course cyber security—anyone passionate about helping others get smarter about digital risks.
Drop a comment, send us a DM, or tag someone who might want to test it with us. We’re listening!
What’s Coming Next
We’re working full-speed toward:
📍 Summer 2025 – First pilot games with companies and schools
📍 Q4 2025 – Full launch in the DACH region and beyond
📍 2026 onward – Expansion into other topics: AI literacy, media competence, and more
The quiz mode is just the beginning. From here, we’ll be adding:
Scenario simulations
AI-driven game mastering
Custom content for industries like finance, health, and education
We want to make cybersecurity feel as intuitive as locking your front door—and at least as fun as your favorite mobile game. Because in the end, the best defense isn’t software—it’s people. Let’s help them think like hackers, act like defenders, and have a little fun along the way.
